oregon, washington, montana, wyoming, arizona, they all have multiple fires. this is a heat wave that's gripping the whole west right now. as i mentioned temperatures here in washington state expected to top out into the 90s over the next couple of days. it's been a record number of fires across the west. 43,000 wildfires burning 6.4 million acres across the country. a typical fire season in the u.s. is about five million acres. so we have exceeded a typical season and we are not out of the woods yet. this fire season still has at least a month to go. at least on this fire here in central washington, one of several that are burning in the state of washington, they have got a full contingent of firefighters, up to 900 firefighters on this scene, including seven helicopters and three of those big air tankers that are dropping fire retardant. so they are working the northern flank of this fire because they're concerned about a jump -- about it jumping highway 97. if it did, it could burn all the way up into leverren worth which is a -- leavenworth which is a hist
